![]() 'Santa Clause 2' Serves Up Big Bellylaughs, Shame by Tim Molloy "The Santa Clause 2," Tim Allen's long-awaited follow-up to the smash 1994 film of the same name minus the number "2" at the end, provides the big bellylaughs Mr. Allen's legions of fans have come to expect from his movies, sitcom, and tabloid confessions of round-the-clock cocaine abuse. After years of bringing gifts to all the good boys and girls of the world, Santa Claus (Mr. Allen) discovers that the future of Christams relies on his finding true love -- and marrying -- in only a few short hours. This hilarious setup gives the talented and likeable Mr. Allen ample opportunity to strut his comic stuff on the big screen. But what "SC2" offers in humor it more than squanders with its overemphasis on un-Christian attitudes, "foul" language and multiple scenes of dirty, deviant sex. While a more restrained filmmaker would know what to show and what to imply, the typically over-the-top Michael Lembeck presents viewers a filthy menagerie of smut that leaves little to the imagination. And in case anything is left there (the imagination), he repeats these ghastly, anti-family sequences again and again, in slow motion and a variety of angles, so that whatever we were imagining is more fully realized than it was when we were only imagining it and had to make up with our minds some of the stuff that Mr. Lembeck is now showing up there on the screen for all to see. These unfortunate missteps in an otherwise promising film are likely to test viewers' patience with "SC2" and may bring to mind words like whore, slut, hooker, wench, trollop, slattern, harlot, doxy, tramp, tart, streetwalker, strumpet and masseuse. "The Santa Clause 2," a Walt Disney Pictures release, is rated G. Running time: 105 minutes. Two stars (out of four).
