I first went to Cafe Prague a couple years ago, when I was still working at localmusic.com. I think a small work group went up towards North Beach and Chinatown in quest of snapcaps, which are very accessible in those areas. Well , Chinatown at least. To be honest, I don't think that we were actually there for snapcaps now that I think about it. But I did notice that they were for sale all over there during a recent lunch time walk. Anyways, we accidentally stumbled upon and had dinner at Cafe Prague and I don't remember exactly what I ordered but I remember thinking, "This is pretty good. I should come here again sometime. I also enjoy the atmosphere. "

In addition, I think I vocalized these desires.

Flash forward a couple years, perhaps a little less. I get a new job as a receptionist located a few blocks from North Beach. Second week on the job and I decide to meet close pals Melika and Chris Weisbart for lunch. Melika, who works in the neighborhood, suggests Cafe Prague. Not having been there in two years, perhaps a little less, I have forgotten the name and location. So you could imagine my delight when we step inside. If you can't imagine, let me paint a picture: I was smiling.

Lunch that day was particularly delicious. I got a sandwich and salad of some sort. In addition, I developed a mild crush on one of the girls that worked behind the counter. So over the next few weeks I ended up there many times, in pursuit of tasty meals and delightful conversations with the pretty worker, who had an accent, Praguish I believe. I enjoyed soups and salads and sandwiches there with the likes of pal Imraan, my uncle, Chris Wesibart (again), and a couple times on the solo tip. In fact one time I ate elsewhere, but decided to go for a cookie there (chocolate chip), just so I could get a little hello in!

One night, good buddy Jason Sattler and his girlfriend Kelly were up from Los Angeles. Eric and I met him at his hotel and we got dinner in Chinatown. Then we decided to go to a couple bars in North Beach. My tall friend Peter Von Pinnon met up with us outside of the Jazz club on Columbus. After this, we headed to this hole in the wall style bar that actually caters to a hipper crowd, right around the corner from the Jazz spot. We order drinks and start to enjoy, and who comes over to clear the glasses at our table but the beautiful girl that works at Cafe Prague!

"Hello, " I say. "How are you?? It's good to see you!"

Looking down, she mutters "Hello."

"You remember me? From Cafe Prague? I go in there sometimes!" I say excitedly.

"Yes." she says and walks away carrying all our empty glasses.

Eric witnessed the entire conversation and felt embarrased for me. We left soon after.
