Fan Fiction Fiction: Marley's Dream

by Henry Marley

Henry Marley awoke that morning, restless with ideas. He felt a story in his heart, a story about Buffy and Willow in Scotland, that he wanted to share to the world, but couldn't, because he was late for his job at Suncoast Video.

Over a cereal bar, Henry's mind raced past plot twists and details, each busting through like atoms. He didn't just focus on Buffy. He had other stories, too: stories about Jake 2.0 spotting Xena, and Dark Angel making out on Gilligan's Island, and, his fave, Homer Simpson visiting Scotland. These were forbidden stories and Horace knew this. If he listened to his muse and wrote them, then posted it on fanfic1337.blogspot.com, he would receive letter and letter from Buffy's attorneys, or worse, other fan fic authors. Didn't they read his pop-up window plea for "NO SOLICITATIONS!!!!"?

When Henry walked into Suncoast, his boss wanted to talk to him. "Henry, you're late," he said, "And for the last time, Henry, what did I tell you about wearing kilts to work?" Henry kept a blank poker face. He did not want to show contempt to a man who never visited Scotland. "Another thing, Hen," his boss added, "You got a letter, it's certified mail. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to restock copies of MTV's Real Cancun." With that, his boss handed Henry an envelope and left.

"Dear Mr. Marley," read the letter. "My name is Joss Whedon, I'm the creator of Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I was online, playing Warhammer, when I noticed your website." Henry's heart went pitter patter. He had to sit down. "Your story about Spike kissing Angel to make Dawson jealous lifted me spirits. It was so good, I want to relaunch Buffy just to tell your story." Henry never felt so good, the letter sent chills up his spine. Either that or a breeze went up his kilt.
