This special retrospective was written by Paws O'Henry, one of "Old Carsy's" biggest fans.

Where would we be without Johnny Carson? Exactly where we are now, because he has died. Johnny Carson, whose sly jokes about Congress and other old-person topics made him wildly popular among the aged, has passed on.

Carson was first and foremost a master of the one-liner. "The definition of an optimist in show business is an accordian player with a beeper," he said last night in sequence replayed endlessly on TV. My parents and grandparents laughed enthusiastically. Apparently a "beeper" is something old people use instead of cell phones.

"When I was a boy we were so naive we use to go out behind the barn and do nothing," Carson is quoted as saying in a very old book about things that were once considered funny. What's a barn?

In short, Carson's death is a huge loss for those old enough to remember him. When he left show business over 1,000 years ago, he was one of America's biggest stars. This is before people had computers.

Carson started his career as a magician, which is pathetic. He soon become one of the biggest stars in the thrilling new medium known as "the television." It is helpful to remember that people were incredibly stupid then. But television was all they had because no one had invented films or radio.

In conclusion, Johnny Carson was a very old man who has not been on TV in years and years. His death is a terrible loss, just like the tragic death of Bob Hope, who was killed in a bar room brawl. Also, he is not the same as Johnny Cash, who was a country-western singer in the 90's.
