![]() He's Not Your Vydas, Not My Vydas, He's Arvydas! by dan fazio I'm back. Before Jordan, there was Arvydas. Arvydas Sabonis. The Lithuanian big man announced his return to the NBA last week, beating so-called "Air" Jordan to the punch. Most analysts, including ESPN's Stuart Scott, agree that a "Booyeah!" would be appropriate here. Since 'Vydas retired two seasons ago, the NBA hasn't been the same. A certain big man has been stomping all over the league, leaving size 25 footprints on the likes of Dikembe Mutumbo, Scot Pollard and, most recently, Todd MacCullough. No more. 'Veed swears he's been hitting the weight room, and is ready to take on Shaq-Diddy. "I am at 110%. I am ready to go toe-to-foot with him, and return the Western Conference Championship to its rightful home, in Portland." Arvydas shrugged off skepticism that the two-year layoff would affect his game. "No big deal. In my country, I practice against three normal-sized men taped together. This is a good practice for the NBA. When Shaquille comes to my house, I will not let him in." The 7'3" vet concluded his press conference by lobbing several of his trademark underhanded reverse layups. Each one was a swish. "I am SO back!" he exclaimed. |
